Rediscover each other

You've built a good life together. So why does it feel like you're living separate ones?

If you're like most of the couples who find me, you're proud of the life you built together. But now that the kids are gone, the careers are settled, and the busyness is behind you, staying connected feels harder than either of you expected.

This is relationship drift, and it may leave you feeling:

  • Lonely, even when you're in the same room

  • Frustrated by the same arguments on repeat

  • Unsure whether what you're feeling is a rough patch or something more permanent

  • Disconnected from the person you chose, and not sure how to find your way back to "the way you were"

Here's the good news:
drift is not the same as done.

Drifting apart happens to good couples in good relationships. Most of the time it's not about a lack of love, but about two people whose deeper needs keep getting lost in translation. I'm here to help you make sense of it all and start speaking the same language.

I help you finally hear each other

MEET DENISE HEIN, MA, LMFT

After 26 years of clinical practice and a lifetime of navigating my own relationships, I've learned one powerful truth:

What you're arguing about is rarely what you're actually feeling.

Underneath every frustrated reaction is a deeper need that has gone unnoticed or misunderstood. Every emotion makes sense in context, and I'm here to help you find that context, understand what's really being said, and reconnect to one another.

MY APPROACH

When most therapy stays in your head, our sessions go to the heart.

My approach is a unique combination of two powerful styles of therapy: The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I've found that by pairing these two methods, couples go deeper sooner, and the changes they make actually stick.

The Gottman Method

Learn practical relationship skills

The skills that make relationships thrive aren't instinctive. They're learned. Yet, most of us were never taught them. That's where the Gottman Method comes in. It's one of the most research-backed approaches in couples therapy and is built on decades of study into what makes relationships work (and what causes them to break down).

My Gottman Method resources for couples lay a strong foundation for you to make transformative change in your relationship between our sessions.

Emotionally Focused Therapy

Experience emotional clarity and connection

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT/EFCT) is where our powerful emotional shifts happen. It's based on the understanding that our deepest needs are for connection and security, and that most relationship conflict is really a signal that those needs aren't being met.

In session, I guide you to slow down, go underneath the surface, and access the emotional experience that's actually driving what's happening between you. This is the work that creates lasting change at the level where it matters most.

MY PROCESS

Therapy sessions that shift

Most couples have tried talking it through. And talking does help, to a point. But understanding something and experiencing it differently are not the same thing. That gap is exactly where I work. While you build understanding and skills at home, I guide you through deep shifts in session that bring you closer, faster.

THE FOUNDATION

Share your story

Your first intake session is where you get to share what's been happening — the history, the hurt, the hopes — and where I get to understand you both, your situation, and the patterns beneath it all.

THE GROUNDWORK

Build understanding

Between sessions, you'll work through the research-backed Gottman Method at home. This framework gives you a shared language and something concrete to practice in your daily life.

Unwind old patterns

During our time in session, we'll use Emotionally Focused Therapy to unpack what's really going on below those surface frustrations. These sessions are deep, focused, and designed to create deeply healing emotional shifts.

THE SHIFT

THE TRANSFORMATION

Renew your connection

Our sessions build towards a renewed relationship that feels connected and whole. The techniques you learned become second nature, communicating your needs feels easier, and the bond you've been missing starts to feel like home again.

Have a different question?

This season of life is calling for a shift.

When the kids leave and life slows down, most couples realize they've been so busy building a life that they forgot to tend to each other. A lot of couples hit this season and think they've missed their chance. They haven't, and you haven't either.
